On 9 – 12 January, Bambino SPA physiotherapists Viktorija Lapinskė and Greta Kalvaitytė participated in the World Aquatic Development Conference 2025 in Lund, Sweden. It is one of the most important events for swimming, diving and swimming education professionals, with professionals from all over the world.
Lectures in 3 tracks were held simultaneously:
- Competitive swimming;
- Swimming lessons for children and adults;
- Diving sports.
Prevention of drownings – a priority for the conference
Particular attention was paid to drowning prevention, a topic that is of particular relevance in Lithuania. Bruce Hopkins, an Australian lifeguard who has been working at Bondi Beach for more than 20 years, shared his experience. During the high season, up to 10,000 holidaymakers a day visit Bondi Beach and are monitored by only 6 lifeguards. He stressed that the right prevention strategies and education help to avoid disasters, even in very crowded recreational areas.
Researchers Milton Nelms and Mike Tripton presented the latest research on the importance of buoyancy techniques. It is the teaching of these skills from an early age that can help to significantly reduce the number of drownings.
Innovative methods and inspiration from the world’s professionals
Greg Lougani, the best diving champion in history and winner of 4 Olympic gold medals, also shared his experience. His life story, charisma and love for the sport gave him extra motivation to achieve even greater goals.
The conference also featured a presentation by Torill Hindmarch, one of Norway’s leading infant transfer specialists. We have been drawing on her knowledge since 2019, when Victoria attended the Baby Swimming Conference in Oslo and brought the most innovative and safe swimming and diving techniques to the Bambino Spa Centres, which we have been using successfully ever since.
Continuous development, participation in world conferences and the introduction of the latest techniques in our centres are our commitment to providing children and their families with a safe, professional and modern swimming experience.
By teaching children not only to swim, but also to be safe in the water, we build their self-confidence and, at the same time, help prevent future disasters.
